Policy and practices

Ecologically sustainable forest management is one of the FPC’s key guiding principles, enshrined in the Forest Products Act 2000.

It is our vision to grow strong, viable and sustainable forest industries for the future wellbeing of all Western Australians.

To achieve this, we need to have rigorous policies and practices in place to ensure that the environment is at the forefront of everything we do.

Forest management policy

FPC has a strong forest management policy which is tightly integrated into all our operations. Our policy objectives include:

  • Apply the principle of sustainable forest management, including contributing to global carbon cycles, to all operational activities in accordance with appropriate State and national legislation, codes and standards.
  • Maintain an integrated forest management system that is externally certified to IS014001 and the Australian Forestry Standard (AS4708) that includes a continuous improvement approach, a monitoring and audit system, regular reviews of environmental performance and an effective reporting system.
  • Participate in activities that contribute to regional natural resource management.
  • Identify the environmental impacts of operations and set objectives and standards to keep potentially significant impacts to acceptable levels, including the prevention of pollution, minimizing waste and reducing energy consumption.
  • Clearly define forest management responsibilities and train staff and contractors in good forest management practices.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on forest management issues and performance.

Governing policy and practices

Forest Products Commission is bound by and adheres to a wide range of policies and practices, both external and internal, which specify how our operations are to be conducted.

All these governing policies and practices are based around the principles of ecologically sustainable forest management, and each is reviewed regularly in line with community values and evolving knowledge.
