INDUSTRY PLANS

The Forest Products Commission (FPC) has combined its knowledge of plantation management together with other specialist information, to produce comprehensive plans for regional forest industry development and the expansion of plantations and tree farming.

This work also forms a key part of fulfilling the key actions identified in Western Australia’s Strategy for Plantations and Farm Forestry: 2008 – 2012 (the Strategy).

Prior to the launch of this Strategy, the FPC had focused its efforts on planning and management of sustainable log supply from native forests and established plantations, in State Forests. With the release of the Strategy, the FPC has extended this to industry development planning with key stakeholders in other important areas where there are a number of participants (for example, sandalwood and oil mallee). These plans identify important issues, proposed actions to address these, and the roles of the FPC, key industry participants, stakeholders and Government in contributing to industry development.

Realising the vision of these industry development plans requires continued and coordinated efforts across all levels of Government, the private sector, research institutions, natural resource management (NRM) groups, industry bodies, landholders and rural communities.
